Let’s Roll!

House is sold. Two inspections, minor repairs done, Agonizing over appraisal and repairs potentially required by the VA.  Stressed doesn’t BEGIN to describe  how we were feeling, living and breathing on a daily basis. There wasn’t enough White Claw on the planet to satisfy me.  Did we make the right decision? Are we crazy for moving across the country? Probably, but who cares?  After a long year of virus, lay-offs, hand sanitizer and masks, we were ready for a change. At least a geographical change. As if moving to California would make the virus go away. It won’t cure Covid, but it will make living with it more palatable. I mean, would you rather be quarantined in snow and ice or sunshine and palm trees??  Exactly.  So the day we planned for, stressed and waffled over is finally here. IT IS MOVING DAY! Packing a Hyundai Tucson with enough to get us through a five day schlep across the country is no easy feat. We packed light, or so we thought. We didn’t re...

I'm gonna be a star!

Image
I'm going to be a star.  A big, bright, shining star.  Not the Kim Kardashian type of star (how'd she get there anyway??😑), not the Hollywood walk of fame type star, but my own personal goal star. The person that takes on a whopping dream, sifts through all the work, heartache, problems, set-backs and still rises to the occasion star.  That's going to be me.  I'm going to be THAT star.  My last post was in August and I've had time to reflect and think about how to become a star. 🌟 The summer nights gave way to the cool fall air.  High School football games at Coatesville High School were attended faithfully by us every Friday night.  That team was full of stars.  Went all the way to the Pennsylvania State championship game in our capitol city, Harrisburg.  They didn't win.  But they came home stars all the same.  They followed their dreams and worked hard and became stars.  I envy that grind. They are all big, bright, shini...

Cleaning out the dog house.....

We all love Marmaduke, but who knew he was such a pack rat?  In all fairness to Red, he is the Felix  to Marmadukes Oscar!   If you were to ask me a year ago if we would be moving across country, my answer would be a  resounding NO!  Are you crazy?  Why would anybody want to sell a house full of, well, crap and  transport that same crap 2600 miles from here?  It's an impossible, expensive feat and not for the faint  of heart.  Where the heck do you start?  What room?  I'm already overwhelmed! The answer to those questions is an easy one.  You just start.  Somewhere, anywhere, but you start. Like Mr. Nike said....Just Do It! ✔️.   I don't think Mr. Nike has seen our garage!   We, like most families, have acquired much needed "stuff" over the years.  That broken pot that I was going to fix, the chandelier project I saw on Pinterest I never got to,  a 33 gallon trashcan full o...

Who moved my food dish?

Image
Moving a dog's food dish or bed are two cardinal sins in a dog's world.  Dog lovers know that dogs love their humans, food and routine (not necessarily in that order)!  Red's dish has been in the exact same spot for over five years.  I've seen the puzzled look, the scrunched up face and cocked ears when it's moved for cleaning.  Moving a dog's dish across the room is bad enough, but moving it across the country??  Oy. Thankfully, in my eagerness to research housing choices in the L.A. area, I came across the dreaded BSL.  Breed Specific Laws are alive and well in L.A.  I thought with California being so progressive, this would have been a thing of the past.  Boy was I wrong!   I saw "pet friendly" and assumed all breeds were welcome with a security deposit and added rent per month for a pet.  I mean, who wouldn't want  a dog like Red on the premise?  He's quiet, (Red has barked a handful of times in the five years we've had h...

A little introduction goes a long way....

Let me start my very first blog with a brief hello.  My name is Susan, I have a wonderful husband of one year (we've know each other since the 9th grade, but that's a story for another day), and 2 beautiful twin boys (men).  My "men" are both in college going into their junior years and needless to say, this mom is proud! So, I'm a wife, mom, a full-time nurse, part-time student and thought I was set in my ways.  Thought I'd be in Honey Brook the rest of my life, in this house and at my current job of 26 years.  Well...not so fast!  At the ripe young age of 58, we have decided to move to L.A. after the boys graduate college, which gives us two years to plan.  We took a trip to L.A. for my husband's birthday this past March and fell in love.  The thought no more snow, no more leaves to rake, are huge selling points in their own right.  But, we looked at the scenery of L.A., the mountains, the beach, the desert all there at our fingertips and fell...
