I'm gonna be a star!

I'm going to be a star.  A big, bright, shining star.  Not the Kim Kardashian type of star (how'd she get there anyway??πŸ˜‘), not the Hollywood walk of fame type star, but my own personal goal star. The person that takes on a whopping dream, sifts through all the work, heartache, problems, set-backs and still rises to the occasion star.  That's going to be me.  I'm going to be THAT star.  My last post was in August and I've had time to reflect and think about how to become a star. 🌟

The summer nights gave way to the cool fall air.  High School football games at Coatesville High School were attended faithfully by us every Friday night.  That team was full of stars.  Went all the way to the Pennsylvania State championship game in our capitol city, Harrisburg.  They didn't win.  But they came home stars all the same.  They followed their dreams and worked hard and became stars.  I envy that grind. They are all big, bright, shining stars. 🌟

Halloween in Honey Brook is a big deal.  They town comes out in force with a parade and community love.  Kids knock on  doors in droves for candy and recognition.  Kept us in Snickers and Reeces cups for weeks!  They were all stars. 🌟

Thanksgiving yields precious family time.  From the smell of turkey my husband makes, to the wonderful smells of all the food family members make and schlep to our house.  Kids home from college, everyone together for a meal and conversation.  We are all truly blessed and we know it.
I mentioned in a previous post that my niece, Emily, would be the new owner of my grandmother's china and delicate sherry glasses.  We carefully boxed up those memories and packed them away for Emily to take with her on Thanksgiving day.  Bittersweet, but they need to move on to a new home for a fresh start and cherished memories for her. My older sister, Andie, is now the new owner of all of our father's slide carousels. Pictures of our childhood lay on those slides like little stories to tell over and over again.  So many pictures, so many memories of years gone by of people that have passed on and are missed everyday.  But they are there.  They are stars on those slides for us to look at and reflect upon whenever we want!  Face it, kids of the 60's all have those slide carousels gathering dust somewhere, somewhere waiting for a new screen and projector to make us all stars again.  Pictures of cars that were longer than my block,  all the oddly shaped Christmas trees with too much tinsel and all of our faces glowing.  We were stars. 🌟

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year.  Family gatherings, kids home from college, holiday spirit everywhere.  We had a few bumps in the road this Christmas with illnesses, yet we all made it a wonderful Christmas just the same.  We all know Christmas isn't about the gifts and decorations, it's about family and love.  My husband's immediate family is here.  His parents and siblings are in Pennsylvania and we are fortunate for the opportunity to see them whenever we want, (or they want!).  My parents are both deceased and two of my three sisters are in different states,  Ohio and Washington.  I have my oldest sister near me and our step-father.  We make it work somehow.  One of my goals when Red moves to Hollywood is to finally visit Seattle and see my West Coast sister.  After all, she moved from Pennsylvania to Washington and managed to survive!  She must be a wealth of knowledge on this topic!  My family are all stars! 🌟

So.  Now we are in the new year.  2019 is here.  Wasn't I just in high school?  I remember my mom saying once that the older you get, the faster time goes.  Boy was she right!  As much as I would like for it to slow down a little, it won't.  Time truly does march on whether we like it or not.  How did my boys get to be 20 year old young men?  Wasn't I just in labor?   2019 is going to be the year of the repairs and upgrades to our home.  We have to start thinking like a prospective buyer and not like the complacent occupants that we are.  First on the docket was the outdated, mismatched kitchen appliances that screamed at us everyday to give in and change them out.  We finally listened.  One day we had dinosaurs for kitchen appliances wreaking havoc on our electric bill, eye sores that needed to go to wherever old appliances retire to, and the next day we had a kitchen full of bright, shiny new stars.  First thing I thought was of course, why didn't we do this sooner??!!!  Matching, energy efficient, beautiful appliances.  They are all brand new stars. 🌟

So, if all of these football teams, Halloween kids, family members, appliances can be stars why can't I?  The answer is simple.  I can be a star and I will be a star.  Will we have bumps in the road and set-backs?  Yep.  I'm counting on it.  But that will make me try harder, be fierce, fearless and when I get to Hollywood I will already be a star.  πŸŒŸπŸŒŸ
